The FGB began with the safeguarding and pecuniary interest standing items. We then discussed actions from the previous FGB, such as support for the new Headteacher report format to the FGB, and preparation for the governor action plan. This led on to the thematic review of governance which has been carried out for the school governing body. This is a detailed and thorough review and covers all aspects of the role of the governing body. It includes governor recruitment and induction, the terms of reference for the school governing body, committee arrangements, and requirements for clerking, registration of interests, delegation of authority, attendance and skills auditing. It was agreed that this was a very thorough piece of work and the FGB all acknowledged the time and effort that had been put into producing it.
We reviewed the governor school visits policy and how visits can be measured against the school improvement plan. We also discussed codes of conduct, and how we can tie together the FGB, resources standards and curriculum committees, and pay and performance reviews, into the strategic plan for the school.
Jon gave a summary of school pupil premium and sports funding. The sports funding has helped provide for lunch time sporting opportunities and outdoor equipment, and the plan is for next year to help towards lunch time play and sporting equipment, indoor PE kit and support work on the school sensory garden. For pupil premium funding, tracking of the funds was in place and would be discussed and brought back to the FGB for a future update.
We discussed the recent standards and curriculum committee meeting. There had been a very informative presentation on the approach towards maths within the school and on mastering the subject. We reviewed recent governor visit reports, on computing, mathematics, SEN and SMSC. We talked about a number of school policies. For the resources committee, we discussed the school budget and upcoming 3 year plan.
We moved on to training, and discussed proposals for governing body training for the next academic year. The FGB will have a full training session before the end of term on using school data to improve pupil outcomes.
The FGB completed with a review of some school policy, and discussion on the admissions process for pupils, together with feedback on recent training courses attended by governors.
