The governors completed the final part of the in-house child protection training session delivered by Jon, prior to the FGB. We then started the meeting. Julia talked about the database for governor details and pecuniary interests, and Jon outlined the link governor roles and contacts.
Sam went through her headteacher’s report for the last half term. She summarised the actions from the school strategic plan. Sam updated the governors on her work supporting St John the Baptist Primary School. We discussed the support arrangements and how as governors we would monitor them as additional support to other schools continued during the academic year. We agreed as governors to consider any requests for additional support or consultancy going forwards. We formed a smaller working group of governors to look at strategic planning for such proposals.
Sam discussed the school attendance, number of pupils per year, and the school waiting lists. Sam talked us through pupil progress, work Diana has done analysing the Raiseonline data, and details on Pupil Premium and Subject leader observations. Jon talked about school learning walks and observations for school performance management and teaching.
Sam updated the governors on the excellent progress Sharon is making within the school with Maths, and the impact and inspiration it is having on staff and pupils. Sam also talked about the new guidance for assessment of writing. The Digital Leaders have produced a new e-safety slogan based around “Stop, Lock, Block and Report” with a “SLBR” character to remind them.
There have been a lot of activities and trips in the last few months, and Sam outlined them to the governors. Sam also said the school gardening club has received the Royal Horticultural Association Level 4 Gardening Award which is great.
The governors discussed the Thematic review of governance and the need to audit the review. Judith kindly agreed to do this for the next FGB.
We reviewed the proposed pro-forma for governor visits to the school and went through the details and the purpose for the information being gathered.
We went through the points from the recent Standards and Curriculum meeting. These included the approval of the anti-bullying policy, the key data from Raiseonline, governor visits and Judith’s feedback on a Life after Levels briefing she attended.
We confirmed the upcoming Whole Governing Body training session in February.
We finished off with some discussion on training, further policy review, and Andrew receiving his service award in recognition of 4 years as a school governor. Well done that man!
