The FGB opened with a check on standing items, such as safeguarding and any pecuniary interests from the governors. We reviewed the minutes from the previous FGB and checked everyone was happy with what was recorded.
Sam took the governors through her head teacher’s report. The SATs were underway at the time of the FGB and we discussed how they were proceeding. Learning Ladders was progressing well, with standardised questions and answers for measurement in Reading and (shortly) Maths too. There would be a meeting with the Infant School to discuss their progress with Learning Ladders. Sam also covered the Parents Information Evening and Pupil Progress meetings. We talked about the school’s outstanding achievement in Maths from the recent Ofsted visit, which was a very positive result and great for the school.
Zara told the governors about work the Learning Council had done to design an observation form for them to use as part of their classroom observations. Zara was very impressed by their approach and enthusiasm. The governors thanked Zara for her hard work with this project.
Learning Ladders is being presented at national conferences and has been well received.
Canoeing and kayaking will be taking place after school. This was identified as a good way to increase the amount of organised physical activity for the children. It was also recognised that activity that was different and individual would be worthwhile. Other sports benefitting from the sports funding were the cricket club, tennis, and athletics.
Sam went over the actions from the Governors Self Evaluation plan and where we stand with them.
We then discussed the recent Standards and Curriculum committee, and Resources committee – Debbie and Debra outlined the key points from these.
At the end of the meeting, Matthew informed the governors that he would be stepping down as the Chair of governors and from the governing body at the end of the school year. We thanked him for all his hard work over the past years and wished him well for the future.
