The FGB opened with a check on standing items, along with a review of the previous FGB minutes for approval. Peter indicated he would finish his role as a governor at this stage. The governors thanked him for his hard work and commitment to the governing body during his term of office.
Matthew discussed the plans for reconstituting the governing body. We agreed we were happy with the new format of representation - comprising Sam, a Local Authority governor, a staff governor, two parent governors and nine co-opted governors. The FGB then voted and co-opted back the newly co-opted governors. The FGB then agreed with Matthew and Rod continuing as Chair and Vice-Chair of the governing body.
We discussed the skills audit that the governors have carried out to help identify areas where we could benefit from additional expertise if required. Matthew summarised the audit; there was no major lack of skills in any one particular area.
Sam went through her Headteacher's report. The topics covered attainment and progress of the school years. Zara gave an update on progress being made for low attaining pupils, based on sampling and observations across the year groups. Sam discussed Learning Ladders and mentioned that some parents have requested more information to help them best understand their child's progress. Sam has been speaking about Learning Ladders at national conferences. Sam is undertaking informal visits to all the classes. She summarised the success of the boys' football team who had won through to a final to take place at White Hart Lane on 21st May 2015. Will Lyon had reported on an increase in the number of children taking part in sporting clubs, and ways of providing alternative sporting activities to increase participation from pupils with special educational needs. The new Year 6 Parents' evening format was discussed and positive feedback received from parents and pupils. A grant funding of £10,000 had been received for new outdoor play equipment for the school.
We discussed the feedback from Ofsted, who had attended the school in March to carry out a subject inspection in mathematics. Sam summarised the inspection. The Ofsted Inspector had been very complimentary about maths provision in the school.
The governors reviewed the oustanding actions from the Strategic Plan. After this, we had a report from the Resources Committee, discussing the school budget and Planned Admission Number for the school.
Margaret circulated details of training programmes for governors. We concluded with a review of school policies - Jon summarised the Child Protection policy and the governors were happy to approve it.
We finished the meeting and during the AOB Sam spoke about her upcoming entry in the London Marathon and her chosen charity, Links International, and we wished her good luck with the race.
